Sessions may take place in our studio, at your home, or at a location of your choice. If you choose to have your session in your home, we can bring a backdrop and stand to set up, or we can incorporate your home’s surroundings into your portraits. I prefer to use natural light when photographing in your home, but I also have studio lights if natural light is not an option.
My photography style is relaxed and laid back. I want your family to feel comfortable and at ease while they are being photographed. We can play music, blow bubbles, dance, or do whatever we need to in order to get everyone in a great picture taking mood. By interacting with my subjects, I’m able to capture genuine smiles and true personalities. Your session will not be rushed, and you can be assured that your session will begin as soon as you arrive. We can take breaks to feed newborns, or give snacks to hungry toddlers. I just ask that your child be well rested prior to arriving for your session.
Solid colors are best. Try to avoid stripes, bold patterns and logos. The focus should be on your child or family, and not on what they are wearing. For family photos, everyone doesn’t need to be in the same color, but coordinating colors are best. Wearing shirts that are in the same color family with jeans, or even different solid colors look great. Khakis are a timeless look as well. Typically, newborns are captured nude, or with as little clothing as possible. The best time to photograph a newborn is under two weeks of age.
Your sitting fee is due upon booking your appointment. The session fee must be received within five days of booking a session, or the scheduled appointment will be forfeited. In the studio, your session can last up to 1 hour, and includes up to 2 outfits if time allows. If we come to your home or meet you at a park, the session can take up to 3 hours if necessary. For outdoor portraits, please keep in mind that the lighting is best and more flattering in the morning (before 10) and in the late afternoon/evening (after 4). If your child becomes ill and you need to reschedule, we ask that you give us as much notice as possible.
Our studio is open by appointment only. We are currently scheduling sessions for Thursdays through Sundays between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM. On Mondays through Wednesdays, evening sessions are available. Please be on time for your session. If you are more than 15 minutes late, your session may need to be rescheduled. If you are running late, please give as much notice as possible.
All images are taken in digital color. Effects including black and white, selective color (black & white with partial coloring) and sepia are available. Your proofs will be presented to you with a variety of these combinations.
Some people can’t stand props, and some can’t get enough of them. We will cater to your style to be sure you get exactly what you are looking for. Your portraits can be as simple as having just your child in the photo, or we can bring in trunks, wicker chairs, flowers, dress up clothes, etc. The choice is up to you! You may also bring something from home that can be photographed with your child. Pets are also welcome; I just ask that you give advance notice.
When you arrive for your portrait session, we will schedule a day for you to return to the studio to view your images and place your order. You are encouraged to bring your spouse, parents, or any other family members that are interested in ordering portraits. If you have extended family members for whom you will be ordering portraits, it’s a good idea to bring a list so you don’t forget anyone.
Also, if you have frames in your home that you are wanting to fill with your new portraits, it’s a good idea to bring a list of the sizes. For your wall portrait needs, we will provide you with the necessary materials to take home with you, in order to determine the correct size. For example, a mantel size portrait will be smaller than a sofa size portrait, but it’s hard to visualize without the proper guidelines. We will make it easy for you!

Current clients will receive a $50 print credit for every friend referred to Captivating Images Photography (upon completion of the friend's session).
